Three Palms Arabians Travels to Georgia for AERC Ride
After a very successful start to the 2007 American Endurance Ride Conference season, Three Palms Arabians continues to focus on their new endurance star JF Ibn Serenada (Ibn Safinaz x Ansata Serenada).
"Kacim" made his debut in January at the Gator Run I, II & III Pioneer Endurance Run at Goethe State Forest in Dunnellon, Florida where he placed eleventh in the twenty five mile limited distance ride.
In February, Kacim traveled to Sylvester, Georgia with his owner and trainer Gunnar Palm, to participate in the Boy Scout Camp Osborn Pow Wow I & II. Forty-two horses started the ride with thirty-nine completing.
Kacim finished the ride in 2:09 which was fast enough to earn him second place. He received the first place heavyweight award. As always, with limited distance rides, the determining factor can down to pulse and respiration requirements. He was only seconds off the winning time of 2:08.
Kacim has displayed a natural ability and great talent for the sport of endurance riding. His conformation is a major contributing factor. The big, leggy gelding has excellent bone and joints. However, his respiratory recovery is the key to success.
Conditioning and training during the month of January made a big difference in Kacim's ability to shave twelve minutes off his time from the first ride. Terrain in both rides was very similar with a hard packed surface over the majority of the course.
However, the secret lies in knowing the horse and being able to read him. This piece of the puzzle is just beginning to come together for the newly formed endurance team. Kacim joined the team in October 2006.
Apparently, Gunnar is confident enough in Kacim's ability after just two limited distance rides to move on to his first fifty mile ride. The twosome will compete in the Sand Hills Stampede March 17-18 in Patrick, South Carolina.
Another one of Three Palms Arabians endurance hopefuls will compete at the Sand Hills Stampede. Citadel Batal (*Simeon Shai x Matrabbs Melody) will participate in the twenty five mile ride. Because of his age, Batal is four years old, he is illegible to compete in limited distance rides only until his fifth birthday.
Batal began his endurance career June 2006 at the Pyramid Challenge in Lexington, Kentucky. This ride is sponsored by The Pyramid Society and takes place at the Kentucky Horse Park. Batal will return to Lexington this June to compete for the coveted ceremonial saddle donated by the King of Morocco to the first straight Egyptian Arabian horse to compete the ride.
